Stop, Look and Listen! An Exploration of Maps using Music and Movement
Map reading depends on a complex set of skills, including tracking, sequencing, spatial awareness, measuring, giving and following directions. Teachers will explore ways to use music and movement to engage students with many different learning styles and enable them to discover, connect and translate their physical travels into symbolic reading of the map. Share this joyful, rhythmic and integrated approach and appreciate that "following directions" is at the same time a literal, poetic, metaphorical, social and graphic reality that you can share with your students.
Terry is a classical pianist, singer and movement specialist. She holds a BA in experimental psychology from Reed College, a BM in Eurhythmics from Cleveland Institute of Music, and an MA in Ethnomusicology from Kent State University. She is a licensed Dalcroze Eurhythmics teacher, is certified in Orff Schulwerk, presents workshops nationally, and has published articles in many journals. She sings with the Cleveland Orchestra Blossom Festival Chorus, Choral Arts Society, and is a Teaching Artist for Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio and the Ohio Arts Council. Terry has collaborated with singers and dancers around the world. She currently performs as "Russian Duo" with a balalaika virtuoso from Siberia.
