Seasons of Creativity
Jump into the new school year with ideas for lessons that theme throughout the school year. We will explore autumn, winter, spring, and summer through movement, singing, and playing. Each season will have a creative focus for improvisation and composition that you can take back to your classroom.
We will also explore how the students grow throughout the seasons and lessons can evolve over time as we begin to plan for the school year ahead. What seeds are planted in the fall that bloom in the spring? Ideas for how to plan will be shared and ways to organize the flow of your school year will be shared.

Planning Programs with PurposeThe performances that are put on by a music teacher during the school year are one of our major ways to communicate to our parents, teaching colleagues, and administrators what is happening within our classroom on a daily basis. Additionally, with limited time in our schedules to make these programs a reality, it is essential that material is carefully chosen to support our curriculum instead of detracting from it.
This workshop will focus on different ways one might construct a program to fit within various constraints while still giving opportunity for student ownership, creativity, and joyful artistry and without sacrificing valuable teaching time.

Our Classrooms Are Poppin’: Musical Connections with a Pop Tune Twist
Incorporating pop music into elementary music classrooms can be a valuable tool for fostering musical literacy, cultural awareness, creativity, and joy among students. Let’s dive into an electrifying exploration where we’ll discover ways to seamlessly integrate the pop music your students love with essential musical concepts. We’ll also explore how to enhance learning both with and without materials, as well as creating dynamic performances that engage students and audiences alike. You’ll leave with practical lessons and activities tailored for K-6th grade, empowering students to see themselves reflected in the music they learn and perform.
Hosted in collaboration with Michigan Kodaly.
