Local Orff educator Matt McCoy shared some of his favorite lessons with DOSA in October of 2022. Matt is a master of Orff process and scaffolding. He demonstrated how to take a vocal piece and add body percussion and a movement activity. He also demonstrated how to teach composition and improvisation using rhythmic building blocks combined with words to say and play a new composition. Good Morning to You with movement activity. Fall composition using rhythmic building blocks and student composed words. Improvised solos with accompaniment.
Artie joined us this September to share some of her favorite resources with us that help us foster a love of music in all of our students. Rhythm play along to Pharrell's hit song "Happy". Artie used different colored hoops and bins to help students work in groups with a variety of instrument types. Artie showed us how to use props like light up drum sticks and sound shapes to create this fun percussion battle. Artie's ball bouncing routine to the Adam's Family theme was fun and engaging. Recorders and mallets worked hand in hand in this challenging piece. This move and freeze movement activity is sure to be a hit with your students! Use an classroom-sized elastic band to perform a movement routine to the piece "La Raspa".
Here you will find resources from our most recent workshops, as well as resources from past workshops.
